FOREWORD
Scott McTeer and I were friends at Duke University in the late 1980s. I played basketball and he played tennis--number two singles and number one doubles. We shared a house for a time with two other student-athletes. Scott began a pro tennis career when he graduated in 1988. He returned to Durham a couple of years later to coach tennis players. I was in law school at Duke at the time.
...When Scott told me he was writing a book on fitness and nutrition I wanted to give it a plug. I've seen the results of his programs, and what he has done for elite athletes he can do for you and me. Your first step to better health and fitness is to buy this book and apply its fundamentals. Reclaiming Your Body on Your Own Terms
(AUSTIN, Tx.) How many Americans want to eat better and exercise regularly but wonder where and how they should start? Maybe entering the Zone or following Dr. Atkins wasn't right for their bodies. Getting going on the road to fitness can be both confusing and daunting, and most people need a simple, practical plan and a dose of motivation to send them off in the right direction.
Scott McTeer's Your Body, Your Life (YBYL), Eating & Exercise Fundamentals is a refreshingly lean guide to reclaiming a strong, healthy body in a way that's best for each individual. As a results-driven fitness and nutrition coach, McTeer sticks to tried-and-true fundamentals that have worked for his clients—helping them feel and perform better, shape their bodies, look younger, and live longer.
YBYL begins by laying the proper mental foundations for improvement. McTeer presents simple, fundamentally true information while leading readers through custom goal-setting, critical success factors, and the development of successful habits. Along the way, readers develop customized eating and exercise plans in the YBYL Workbook. While some popular programs encourage drastic changes that sacrifice muscle and health to achieve weight loss, YBYL's gradual approach allows mental attitude and physical health to develop together so that readers can and will achieve lasting results.
Clear and comprehensive, YBYL is for everyone. “The program described in this book is simple, logical and ‘do-able' for people of all ages and walks of life,” McTeer explains. And he should know since he works with a broad spectrum of people, including pro and amateur athletes, corporations, full-time moms, and business professionals. As a professional coach McTeer sees the athlete in each of us and reminds us that athletes need coaches to be successful. “I've seen the results of his programs, and what he has done for elite athletes he can do for you and me,” attests Quin Snyder, head coach of the University of Missouri's men's basketball team.
Scott McTeer's a former pro tennis player and coach and currently a fitness trainer for 35 successful clients. He has been a year-round athlete for 30 years and for the past 12 years he has coached and trained hundreds of full and part-time athletes. He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength & Conditioning Association, a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise, and an Older Adult Trainer by the American Institute of Fitness Educators.
McTeer lives in Austin, Texas with his three dogs—Bacchus, Clyde & Roxy.
